Some interesting factoids from the latest study from "THE WEDDING REPORT" on trends for weddings and receptions

-More couples choosing same location to have their ceremony and reception, up almost 10% over 2010
-More couples having their wedding ceremony at a courthouse, private residence, or wedding chapel
-More couples holding their wedding reception at a private residence or restaurant
-Food stations are more in demand than ever before
-While other dessert options are popping up, wedding cake is still most popular at 83% demand
-Cash bar on the rise along with outside alcohol and BYOB
-Photo booth is the only rental that maintained demand, all other rentals down
-Couples inviting less guests, 144 compared to 152 in the 2010 study

TLC has just announced that "Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta" will be renewed, and will premier in the summer of 2011. The press release says that is will be "renewed", and that it will "premier", so I'm not sure if that means that it's already been on and I haven't seen it, or just that the tapings have gone so well that they will continue it. I loved "Say Yes to the dress" at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City.

I saw a preview of the Atlanta show when the bride was trying to try on her dream dress, but they didn't have it in her size and the size that they did have just wasn't going to go on. As a plus sized woman myself, I know how frustrating it is to want to see how a style looks on my body, but the samples just are not big enough. Hopefully, bridal salons will continue to be forward thinking and stock samples in a variety of sizes. I just don't think I could purchase an expensive gown without seeing it on my bod first. Just my thoughts...

What is the color Diamond White for Wedding Veils?

We get a lot of questions concerning the color Diamond White for wedding veils. Some people think it a really stark white, however, is is really just slightly off-white. Sometimes Diamond White is also referred to as "Silk White", as gowns that are made of silk are not pure white, but slightly off white. Diamond White is also referred to as as "Candlelight".

If you pair a Diamond White wedding gown with a white veil, it may make if look like your gown is "dirty". If you pair an ivory veil with a Diamond White veil, it will make your veil look "dirty".

Recently we've noticed that some bridal gown designers are calling their gowns "IVORY", but they are so lightly colored that Diamond White veils actually a better match with them.

Wow, I've just realized that it's been 2 years since I last blogged! Time flies when you're making veils and running a business. There are some new trends in wedding accessories that we've been noticing. White gowns and accessories have always been popular, but we've been selling more ivory than white accessories these days. Also, some gowns come with a touch or color, either in a sash, trim or train, and brides are choosing to coordinate their veil by choosing a veil that is edged in the same color.

I really like the touch of color that is becoming popular in bridal gowns. You can personalize your wedding attire, and introduce a "pop" of color to the typical white or ivory. Besides adding a splash of color to bridal gowns, designers are going with newer colors for the whole gown such as silver, gold or pearl colored wedding gowns. We've had quite a few requests in the last few months for silver and gold veils. Lovely!

A unique wedding favor idea for a Fairy Tale or Cinderella Wedding Theme

Cinderella Glass Slipper Wedding Favor

Here's a unique wedding favor idea if you are having a fairy tale wedding theme or Cinderella wedding theme. I think the best part of the movie is when the tension builds and Prince is trying to find his true love by traversing the kingdom with the glass slipper on the pillow.

To go with that idea, I looked for plastic slippers and found then at a dollar store 6 for $1-what a deal!). I didn't want to go with the typical candy-in-the-shoe-wrapped-in-tulle-favor. I wanted to recreate the slipper on the pillow, so here is what I came up with.

To make it look like a pillow, I used 100% polyester satin (acetate satin frays too easily and is too flimsy for the pillow).

I recommend using a serger if you can, as it give the seams more strength. There will be a lot of stress on the seams when the candy bag is stuffed into the pillow. If you don't have access to a serger, use a straight stitch, then finish the edges with a zigzag stitch.

Cut the satin for the top of the pillow into a square 3 ^3/4" x 3 ^3/4".

Cut 2 pieces of the satin for the bottom into rectangles of 2 ^5/8" by 3 ^3/4".

To make a finished edge for the center overlap of the the bottom piece,
serge or zigzag one edge of each of the bottom piece .

Sew the bottom two pieces together so that they overlap about 1\4" on each piece (This is to keep the candy bag from falling out, but makes it accessible). Sew along the top and bottom of the back piece just so that the overlap will stay together when you sew the back to the front.

Sew the front of the pillow to the back of the pillow. The edge of the back will be larger than the front-that's ok. Center the overlap of the back and pin. Now trim the back piece so that it is the same size as the top piece of the pillow. (Or, if you are using a serger, omit trimming it by hand and just use the knife on the serger to trim it.)

Sew front to back with a straight stitch, then finish the edges with a zigzag stitch.

Turn inside out, and hot glue plastic slipper to the pillow.

Glue or hot fix rhinestones to the pillow and bow of slipper.

Stuff treat bags with candy, and tape closed.

Stuff into pillow and you're done!

I'll post a photo soon of the back of the pillow, to show the pocket to insert the plastic bag into. The edges of the opening are overlapped so the bag doesn't fall out.
